MT32 specified for office refit
23rd June 2009
Building services consultants working on the time-pressured ‘live' refurbishment of an office block in London believe they have shaved weeks off the scheme by utilising Marshall-Tufflex's MT32 Power Connection System.
The 32 amp pre-wired plug-and-play modular wiring solution has been installed in the South Bank offices of Capgemini, a global leader in the provision of consulting, technology and outsourcing services to businesses around the world.
The major re-fit of Capgemini's 1980's office block includes the complete reconfiguration of power services in four phases of a ‘floor-by-floor' programme - all carried out while the remaining offices are operational.
With an extremely tight timescale in place, and minimum disruption to offices in use to contend with, building services consultants for the project, Couch, Perry & Wilkes, selected Marshall-Tufflex's MT32 system contained within the cable management specialist's all-curved Odyssey trunking, to take power throughout the building.
"MT32 significantly reduced time spent on the second fix installation, perhaps by as much as one week on each of the four floors being refurbished helping the contractor to complete each section of the works within the constraints of a very tight programme ," said Tony Foster of Couch, Perry & Wilkes.
"We also like the versatility it offered. Being a modular system it lent itself very favourably to the high density of outlets and simplified the electrical wiring of the power distribution system. In addition, we chose Odyssey as a containment system, with its curved profile, primarily to reflect the curvature of the North and South Sides of the building itself."
MT32 is supplied in pre-wired, pre-tested form and requires no more than clicking together and circuit testing before signing off for a fast, error-free electrical installation. Installers can easily install the units, even in older buildings where layouts tend to be irregular. MT32 can also be easily re-configured if re-positioning or the addition of power outlets is later required.
MT32 units, with 4, 6 and 8 twin socket combinations, are being installed at Capgemini's offices. In addition to Marshall-Tufflex's white Odyssey trunking, blue Odyssey adapters and curved centre lid spacers specified by the consultant in order to meet the requirements of Part M regulation for Visual Impairment.
Main contractor is Apex Interiors. The sub-contractor for electrical work is Muranda Electrical Services and Electrical wholesaler is Edmundson's Crayford branch.
"The job has involved a complete strip, new mechanical plate and dado trunking with supply and fix of all electrical components," explained Jack Cuthbertson, project manager for Muranda Electrical Services.
Gregg Smith, project manager for Apex Interiors, said of Marshall-Tufflex's MT32 system coupled with Odyssey trunking: "It is the first time we have used these products, which look good and work together well."
